The New Territories is one of the 3 main regions of Hong Kong (the other 2 are Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon peninsula). It stretches from north of Kowloon to the Chinese border, covering the northern part of Kowloon and south of the Sham Chun River. New Kowloon has many modern apartments and condominiums, but is relatively quieter than downtown Hong Kong.
The New Territories also has wetlands, parks, farmland, white-sand beaches, and quaint villages with interesting histories. The region is also made up of Hong Kong’s outlying islands, including Lantau (Hong Kong’s largest island), car-free Lamma, and Sai Kung.
