Highlights & Features of Wetland Park

One of Wetland Park’s most famous inhabitants is Pui Pui the crocodile who resides in a specially landscaped enclosure featuring her own pool and basking areas. Pui Pui is a saltwater crocodile who was found in Hong Kong despite Hong Kong not being a natural habitat for these animals. She was brought to the Wetland Park in 2003 and quickly became a celebrity with the centre adapting to develop a habitat to mirror her own natural environment.

In addition to Pui Pui, the Wetland Park recently recorded 235 bird species, 150 butterfly species, 9 species of amphibians, 23 different types of reptiles and 11 kinds of mammals. There are also a wide range of fish and dragonflies making the park their home. Summer is a great time to see butterflies and dragonflies play, from October to April wintering birds arrive for a short stay before migrating again in spring. Guided tours are available including ‘Know More’ and ‘Wetlands Reserve’ both offering a guide to take you through the park sharing their wealth of knowledge en-route.

Good to Know

The Wetland Park covers a wide area so it’s a good idea to check out what you want to see in advance with maps available at most Hong Kong tour operators or on the Wetlands Park website. It’s also advisable to check the weather forecast before you set out, if the forecast is for a hot day, bring a sun hat, umbrella and sun lotion. You can bring your own drinking water onto the premises which is advisable regardless of the weather conditions. Visiting when the tide is low will ensure you see a greater diversity of birds and crabs at the Riverside Hide and Mangrove Boardwalk.

Due to some of the park being located outside, visitors should also bring mosquito and insect repellent, long sleeved clothing and closed shoes. Children should be advised to stay on the footpaths and not to touch any wildlife. For families or group visitors, there are family day and group discounted passes available, plus single entry tickets with no admission charged for children under the age of three years. The Wetland Park is best experienced as a full day attraction and there is a café on site selling food and beverages with vending machines also situated throughout the park.

Location: Tin Shui Wai, New Territories
How to get there: Travel by MTR West Rail and Light Rail to Tin Shui Wai Station and take the pedestrian bridge or tunnel to the park. Bus numbers 69M, 69X, E34, 264M, 269B, C and D all arrive at Tin Sau Station/Wetland Park Station. Car parking is very limited although you can use the public car parks located a 15 minutes walk away.
