Lantau is one of Hong Kong's better-known areas. Located at the mouth of the Pearl River and with a land mass of 147sqkm, it is Hong Kong's largest Island. It's often referred to as the 'lungs of Hong Kong' because of its lack of development and the richness of its forests. It has a relatively low population, numbering about 45,000 people compared to Hong Kong Island's 1.4 million souls. Still, in spite of a solid and comprehensive public transport system, the city can be somewhat challenging to get around in.
