About Shatin:
Sha Tin is located about 13km (8 miles) north of Tsim Sha Tsui. The district is best known for a modern horseracing - the Sha Tin Racecourse as well as its huge shopping mall the New Town Plaza. However, the most interesting attractions for visitors are its fascinating temples, a walled village, mountain trails.
More than 40% of Hong Kong's population now lives in the New Territories, which were leased by the British in 1898 when the colony of Hong Kong was extended beyond the Kowloon peninsula. Today, the largely rural gateway to China area has reverted back to China and is expanding rapidly. Both old and new towns such as Satin, Tai Po, Said Kung, Failing, Tune Wan, Tune Mum, are experiencing rapid growth as the region expands. |
