  • Apliu Street Flea Market

    Electronics Market in Hong Kong

Apliu Street Flea Market really is the place to come for cheap, second-hand and new electronics in Hong Kong. Situated just north of the more popular Temple Street Market in Kowloon, many would argue that this more local-feeling market is a much better place to grab a bargain, even if there isn’t as much on sale.

Those looking for cheap phones, TVs, computers, tablets, radios, stereos, DVDs and electrical household items will easily find what they’re looking for. Whilst the emphasis at Apliu Street is firmly on the gadgets, some stalls also sell cheap clothing items, watches, accessories and antiques – meaning this flea market isn’t only reserved for those looking to snap up a bargain on technology.

  • As well as new(ish) looking mechanize, this Hong Kong market also has a range of older items; not so great if you’re looking to purchase a new phone, but great if you’re after a vintage camera and old-school radio to add a touch of nostalgia to your 21st century lifestyle. Delve deep, and you’ll also find old Chinese relics, antique watches and retro accessories.

Prices here are cheap already, although most vendors do not display the price and will usually quote you on the spot. This inevitably means there is room for a bit of bargaining, and you can expect to get discounts of 10-20% on most items if you try your luck.

If you’re planning a visit to Hong Kong’s famous Temple Street Market, a quick look at Apliu Street is well worth it, especially if you want to lose the crowds of tourists. From Temple Street, Apliu Market is a short taxi ride away – or you can hop on the MTR from Mong Kok across two stops to Sham Shui Po. The market runs every day and gets busy in the evenings between 19:00-22:00. At the far end of Apilu Street, there is a whole host of textile traders selling probably the cheapest fabrics in all of Hong Kong (this is often where tailors come to buy bolts of fabric)

To find Apliu Street Market, take the MTR to Sham Shui Po, and then it’s just a short walk down two blocks from there. The actual road itself is very small, yet a surprisingly large number of shops, stalls and vendors cram into the small space every night, selling all kinds of electrical products, as well as a few other different kinds of items (if you hunt hard enough).
