New Town Plaza is a sprawling complex encompassing three plazas in one located at the centre of Sha Tin. The main part of the mall centres on a nine-storey tower complete with a cinema, shops, restaurants, a roof garden and a themed fun world for kids.
This is definitely the mall to visit in Hong Kong if you have children in tow with an outdoor playground created around the character Snoopy; there is plenty here to keep even the most active kids amused for hours. The plaza is also packed with brand name shops stocking clothes, accessories, cosmetics and books, plus Hong Kong’s flagship IKEA store.

There are around 350 stores including Marks & Spencer and Japanese Seibu as anchors. Kids are well catered for with a Toys ‘R’ Us and there are plenty of well-known labels for style seeking shoppers including ZARA and ESPRIT, in addition to local trendsetters Pedder Red.

New Town Plaza has no shortage of eating options with eateries located on most levels cooking up Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, Korean and Western food.
There is a cluster of trendy new diners located in the South Wing of Phase I including Hong Kong’s first Shakey’s Pizza and Pokka Café. Food is affordable and mostly casual at this busy mid-range mall, where you can expect to queue at most outlets during peak hours.
Located at Phase I, Level 1, HIP Sushi has been the focus of much praise from local media for its Japanese creations. Produce is flown in fresh from Japan daily to build a Sushi menu with innovative twists. Other items include Sashimi and Hot soups with seafood and vegetarian options.
From the streets of Sacramento to the New Town Plaza, Shakey’s Pizza is all about family dining, especially for kids. Dough is made fresh daily to create super long pizzas to share, plus there’s fried chicken, pasta and salads on the menu. Dixieland music plays daily to add to the fun filled atmosphere.
For the ultimate Steak experience then take a trip to Mr Steak where Canadian and Australian aged prime cuts are dry-aged resulting in a nutty, buttery taste. Tender, juicy steaks are served in a relaxed environment at prices that are pretty affordable. The interior of the restaurant is kept basic to allow ‘the food to speak for itself’.
